Without community involvement through the partnership, PennDOT would likely spend 10 to 15 times more money removing graffiti. The PennDOT-donated materials for CAP’s inaugural graffiti cleanup on the Jermyn-Mayfield Bridge and the Bunker Hill Bridge cost less than $1,000. If PennDOT used an existing contractor, the Jermyn-Mayfield Bridge alone could have cost up to $18,000.

PennDOT is very grateful to those who donate their time and effort to this program. Not only does the valuable help of community volunteers improve the appearance of area structures and conserve money, it also allows PennDOT workers to focus their time and specialized skills on other transportation-related bridge and roadway maintenance projects. PennDOT looks forward to beautifying more communities with volunteer efforts through the partnership in the future.
